Disbo: Modernizing Settlement Disbursement, Building a Secure Centralized LegalTech Platform

Overview
Before Disbo began building its platform, settlement disbursement in U.S. law firms was a manual and fragmented process.
Once a case reached settlement, firms had to distribute funds to multiple recipients, including clients, medical providers, and other beneficiaries. This required extensive email exchanges, individual fee negotiations, document sharing across disconnected channels, mailing physical checks, tracking confirmations, and mitigating fraud risks.
With no centralized system connecting all parties, the process depended on scattered tools and manual oversight. The result was frequent delays, heavy administrative workload, and ongoing compliance and trust account reconciliation challenges for both legal teams and providers.
The Challenge
Disbo needed to transform a traditionally manual, risk-prone process into a secure and centralized digital workflow without compromising compliance or operational standards.
Key challenges included:
- Connecting multiple stakeholders within one structured system
- Ensuring regulatory compliance in legal and financial operations
- Preserving data integrity and payment traceability
- Reducing manual document handling and repetitive review processes
- Designing for scalability in a growing LegalTech environment
- Minimizing fraud exposure and operational risk
The core challenge was not just digitization, but building a compliant, secure, and scalable infrastructure capable of supporting a regulated financial workflow.
Planning, Launch, Learning, and Stabilization
We partnered with Disbo to design and build a centralized, secure platform capable of streamlining the entire settlement disbursement lifecycle. The focus was on creating an intuitive and compliant system that connects all parties involved in a case, enabling structured communication, transparent negotiations, and secure transaction handling within a single digital workflow. From the outset, scalability, data integrity, and regulatory compliance were core priorities.
To validate the approach, we launched an MVP designed to optimize the core disbursement workflow. The initial release enabled law firms to initiate and manage settlement cases, allowed medical providers to participate securely in structured negotiations, digitized documentation to reduce manual reprocessing, and facilitated compliant, traceable payment coordination.

Our Solution
Specifically, we:
- Built a unified digital workflow that connects law firms, medical providers, and other stakeholders in a single system
- Developed structured negotiation flows to replace fragmented email communication
- Digitized documentation processes to reduce manual review, reprocessing, and operational friction
- Implemented secure and traceable payment coordination mechanisms aligned with compliance requirements
- Designed the architecture with scalability and data integrity as foundational principles
- Prioritized regulatory standards and security controls to support legal and financial operational requirements
The result is a platform that replaces a disconnected, manual process with a centralized and controlled digital experience.
